Aug. 4th-5th, Franklin Grove Summer Harvest Festival and Car Show:

Aug. 9th-11th, Lincoln Highway Buy-Way Yard Sale: If you have not planned to do anything yet, this is our chance to promote the road and let local yard sale enthusiasts, church and organization rummage sales, and businesses join in on the fun! This year, Illinois joins Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia for 586 miles of sales. We also have a fundraiser going. There are T-shirts, small posters, magnets, canvas tote bags, and many other items for sale at:

The sale of those items will help us get money for advertising and anything left over will stay with the Chapter in Illinois. The company will only make items as they are sold and in a few years, those may be collectors' items! Get yours now! Also, there will be official Yard Sale signs available at local Chambers of Commerce in towns along the route for $15. They are weather resistant and anyone buying one can put one in their yard days in advance to advertise their sale. Right now, those are available at the Headquarters building in Franklin Grove and the Chamber of Commerce in Oregon, Illinois.

If you want your sale advertised, Headquarters has signs for $15 and the telephone number is: 815-456-3030. Or, contact Headquarters or send e-mail to: to find a location closer to you!

August 21, 6:00 p.m. Karl Teller, A.K.A. the Redbird Express, our Lincoln Highway Hobo will give a talk at Chaplin Creek in Franklin Grove. If you have not met him, here is your chance! Bring a dish to pass and a lawn chair if you would like.

7:00 p.m. Friday, 10:00 a.m. and/or 2:00 p.m. Saturday, 1:00 p.m. Sunday

If you are at DeKalb's CornFest, go over by the mural painted on the bricks on the building on the corner of First Street and Lincoln Highway, on the corner opposite of Walgreen's at these times to see who else is there!!!

September 22nd, MEMBERSHIP MEETING, 11:00 a.m., Geneva History Center, Geneva, Illinois. We had a meeting here a couple of years ago but, there is a very nice lady in our Illinois Chapter who is in a walking group. Geneva, Illinois has the best historical area to walk in along the Lincoln Highway and it has one of the best historical districts to walk in of all of Illinois! Come and enjoy a business meeting first in the Meeting Room to the left of the entrance at 11:00. Then, David Oberg, the Executive Director of the museum, will give us a short talk at noon and take us for a tour of the museum. Admission $2 + free will donation. The museum itself and the gift shop are an exemplary example of the use of space for professional-looking museum exhibits and the gift shop has arts and crafts neatly arranged. Come and look to get ideas for Headquarters in Franklin Grove. Then, enjoy lunch at the restaurant of your choice in Geneva. There will be plenty of shops to see afterward and the historic district will be a wonderful setting for a walk on an early fall day. The History Center is right across the street from the Courthouse at 113 S. Third Street. Take Route 38 (State St. in Geneva) and turn south on S. Third St. S. Third St. is three blocks west of the Fox River. There is a Web site at:
